Kinetic Fiber Installation Beginning Monday, September 21
Callonwood Residents,
We were informed this week that Kinetic will begin fiber installation in Callonwood on Monday, September 21. The HOA Board has had several discussions with Kinetic regarding the installation process and what residents should expect as work moves through the neighborhood.
Kinetic already has above ground pedestals throughout the neighborhood, and we advocated for replacing them with underground equipment as part of the fiber installation. Kinetic has advised that it does not have the equipment for underground residential boxes, except at larger junction areas such as those near the clubhouse.
We have been told, however, that the new pedestals are slightly smaller than some of the existing equipment in the neighborhood and that fewer pedestals will be used.
Residents may initially see both the existing pedestals and the new fiber pedestals in place at the same time. Kinetic has advised that the existing pedestals will remain during the early stages of installation, but once the new fiber system is tied in and activated, the old pedestals will be removed.
Kinetic has also explained that the installation will not be the same on both sides of each street. Generally:
- One side of the street will carry the main fiber line and will have the above ground pedestals.
- The opposite side will primarily use smaller, flush to ground access points connected to homes. Kinetic refers to these as “flower pots.” These are small access boxes set at or near ground level rather than full size pedestals.
- Installation is expected to take several weeks, beginning on the Stallings side of Callonwood and finishing on the Indian Trail side. We know this work can be disruptive to lawns and landscaping. Kinetic has indicated that much of the installation will be completed using boring equipment, with relatively small access areas, approximately two feet deep, which is intended to limit surface disruption. We have also set clear expectations regarding restoration of any disturbed areas.
Because fall provides a limited window for lawn improvement and fescue seeding, residents should continue addressing lawn needs as conditions allow. If fiber work is already underway on your street, the timing of any lawn work can be more easily assessed. If Kinetic later disturbs an area of your lawn, please follow up promptly with the contractor so the area can be properly restored.

As noted in our spring newsletter, Kinetic, formerly Windstream/Alltel, has prior authorization associated with its original telecommunications service in Callonwood and has also been working through the required municipal permitting process.
The Board will continue communicating with Kinetic as installation progresses and will work to address concerns regarding equipment placement, common areas, and restoration.
We appreciate residents’ patience while this work moves through the community.
